AMGP Scholarship Selection Process

The selection process to award AMGP scholarships is straightforward: AMGP works with the heads of local primary schools in the Kimanjo area to first identify girls who are academically high-achieving but financially-needy. These girls are then invited to apply for the 4-year scholarships and interview with a panel comprised of the local academic board, community leaders, and Solomon Kimani (pictured below), the Amazing Maasai Girls Project’s local representative, who also manages the scholarship fund locally and mentors the girls.

Depending on the number of scholarships available, the team will select the recipients who will be able to continue their studies. The girls attend either St. Francis' Girls School in DolDol (boarding school), Il-Polei Mixed or Kimanjo Mixed day schools.

The 38 girls who have passed the interview process annually since 2011 have all done so as a result of hard work and determination, both at primary school and in the selection process itself; it is not uncommon for a student to walk 15km each way to attend these interviews. For the 2014 intake, 60 girls attended the interviews over a 2-day period - all wishing to secure a place in secondary school.

The girls we are able to support continue to work hard, gaining the confidence in themselves to dream of a future greater than their parents could give. We are very proud of and inspired by our Amazing Girls, and have no doubt you will be too. You can read the AMGP 2013 Donor Report here.
